We had spent our last two anniversaries at Lumley Castle at Chester Le Street. This year they were fully booked so Adam looked around for something a little bit different. He discovered The Pudding Club at the Three Ways House Hotel in the Cotswolds (puddingclub).
For the first night of our stay we were in one of the themed pudding rooms. Our's was the Summer Pudding room. We were abit diappointed at how small the room was but it was decorated with brambles and flowers with the odd bird and mouse around. There were strawberries painted around the bed and a Summer Pudding recipe on the wall.
In the evening we were booked into The Pudding Club. We were told the history of The Pudding Club by the Chief Pudding Tester and then we were led into the dining room. We were served a small main course which was delicious Next came the part we had been waiting for, the Chief Pudding Taster told us the 3 rules of the Pudding Club and then one by one a large traditional pudding was brought into the room with the guests cheering on. There were seven traditional English puds in all - Spotted Dick, Bread and Butter, Syrup Sponge, Autumn Pudding and Lord Randalls with lashings of custard and then Sticky Toffee and Date with toffee sauce, and finally Squidgy Chocolate and Nut with chocolate sauce.
You just went up to the table and chose a pudding to try. When that one was finished you went up to try a different one and so on until you had tried all seven puddings... and then you could go again as often as you liked! At the end of the evening you had to vote on your favourite pudding. It was a fantastic evening despite the fact that I only managed four puddings (Adam managed all seven of course). Scrumptious!
The following day we started with a lovely buffet breakfast and then changed rooms. For the second night we were booked into a superior room which was lovely. It was much bigger than the Summer Pudding Room and much lighter.
Next we headed off to Stratford on Avon for the day. We did lots of shopping and then felt like we really should go and look at Shakespear's birthplace. We then went to visit the Teddy Bear Museum and the Butterfly Farm. The butterflies were fantastic. There were hundreds of them and flying all around us. After an exhausting day we headed back to the hotel for a lovely evening meal. It had all been a perfect weekend
